Reindeer Sledding in Tromsø: Feeding, Sledding or Dinner – Which Tour?
Updated October 13, 2026 · 6 min read
For most visitors, book the Reindeer Sledding & Feeding with a Sami Guide: €176.89 per person, four hours, a sled ride, hand-feeding, a hot lunch in a Sami tent and a joik, rated 4.7 by 6,865 reviewers. For about half the price: the Reindeer Sledding, Feeding & Sami Culture Experience costs €99.49 and lets you choose sledding or feeding. If you want to stay in daylight and skip the sled: the Reindeer Camp and Sami Cultural Tour with Lunch is a feeding and culture tour at €158.17.
The six tours are close in content. The differences that matter are how much sledding you actually get, whether a meal is included, and what the evening versions add.

The sled ride is the shortest part
The two €205.43 sledding tours, daytime and evening, are the only listings here that put a number on it: a maximum of 30 minutes, adjusted for snow and weather. If the weather does not allow the sled ride at all, the operator offers a partial refund and runs the rest of the tour as normal. The other sledding tours do not state a length. Plan on a short ride, not an expedition, and judge the tour mostly by the camp, the meal and the guide.
Sledding is also the part with limits. The daytime tour at €205.43 refuses guests over 110 kg, “to ensure our reindeer stay safe and healthy”. The evening sledding tour with Northern Lights chance and dinner, which costs the same €205.43, lists people over 100 kg. Both list wheelchair users and people with mobility impairments as not suitable. Check the weight limit of the specific tour before you book, because it is not the same on every listing.
Feeding only is a legitimate choice
The tours without a sled are not a downgrade. You hand-feed the herd, step into the hut for a warm meal, and listen to stories and a joik, and that is the core of the sledding tours as well. The €158.17 daytime tour describes a herd of 300 reindeer eating from your hands at a ranch owned by Sami people. If someone in your group is over a sled’s weight limit, this version avoids the problem. It does not solve every access question: the €158.64 feeding tour from Tromsø Lapland also lists mobility impairments and wheelchair users as not suitable, so ask the operator if that applies to you.
Group size and the camp
Only the budget tour states a group size: up to 45 people at a time, each group with a personal guide, which the operator presents as a way of avoiding mass tourism and giving the animals a calmer setting. On that tour the sledding happens at a different camp from the feeding, and you pick one of the two. It is the shortest tour at 2.5 to 3.5 hours, and the listing puts the camp 15 minutes from the city centre. The trade-off is simple: you pay about half and give up either the sled or the feeding.
What the night versions add
The evening tours add a chance to see the Northern Lights from the camp. It is a chance, not a feature: the €158.64 feeding tour says plainly that sightings are not guaranteed and that the camp is chosen for its low light pollution. The €195.61 night sled tour adds a three-course meal including bidos, a stew the listing says is served on special occasions. If seeing the lights is your real goal, a dedicated chase is the better tool; see our guide to Northern Lights tours by bus, minibus or small group.
Practicalities with children
The €176.89 tour includes booster seats on the bus (you may bring your own). The night tour’s listing warns that its buses have only a few booster seats and recommends your own car seat or a taxi with the right seat. The budget tour provides no baby seats at all and cannot be reached by your own car. On the €158.64 evening tour you can bring a stroller, but the terrain is not suited to using one. Dress in at least two layers, with a hat, gloves and good winter boots; the operators provide overalls on several of these tours.
How to choose
Book the €176.89 tour for a full first experience with the most reviews behind it. Book the €99.49 tour if the price decides it and you are content with one of sledding or feeding. Book a feeding tour if weight or mobility rules out the sled. Book a night tour only if you also want the dinner and accept that the sky is a bonus.
